Latest experiment in the kitchen is a pear and chocolate cake (from the October issue of Good Food magazine). It was quite time-consuming to prepare, though not particularly difficult, as it involved a lot of chopping. Of course baking always takes a little longer when the Jam is helping – me pour, me mix!
Cooking in Dad’s kitchen today as we’re staying with him while DH is away. He has some old friends visiting from Canada so they can be guinea pigs! It smells fantastic – chocolate and almonds – and is pleasingly dense. The icing is just chocolate and soured cream so it’s not overly sweet. We’ll be trying it after dinner tonight and I’m sure the Jam will give his verdict tomorrow.
